Who We Are — and Why

Before Our Very Eyes is a human trafficking awareness campaign with a focus on domestic human trafficking which involves both sexual exploitation and forced labor. Our goal is to reach people who know very little about human trafficking, to encourage them to learn more about the topic, to identify it in our own surroundings, and to fight it right here in our own neighborhoods. An effective fight against the crime of human trafficking will require the informed eyes and ears of many.

About Us

BEFORE OUR VERY EYES was created in 2015, when Georgi LaBerge and Pamela Estes decided to join forces to increase public awareness about domestic human trafficking. They did research and reached out to many different organizations to learn more, plan and privately fundraise to host a public awareness event in Redwood City. They were soon joined by Belinda Carr and Micki Carter. These four community volunteers served as the first steering committee to organize the first BEFORE OUR VERY EYES human trafficking awareness event. They recognized that human trafficking is a dark and sobering issue, so they developed a plan to make the issue more approachable through various artistic mediums.  The event took place in Redwood City, CA on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Following the 2016 kick off, the Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition (BAATC) has partnered with BEFORE OUR VERY EYES in finding opportunities to increase awareness about human trafficking among residents of the San Francisco Bay Area.
